Functional Testing

Our clinic offers several tests that can easily be conducted in consultation within our clinic to help to assess your health concerns and provide comparison to measure health outcomes. We do not diagnose illnesses but can refer to appropriate health professionals for diagnosis where indicated.

Physical Exam Assessment

This is one of the key ways we collect and gather information about your individual health particularly your nutritional status. You practitioner may check your:

  • Height
  • Weight
  • Hair
  • Skin & nails
  • Tongue
  • Eyes
  • Blood pressure
  • Respiratory check

We undertake other testing for a fee which include:

Quadscan Test and VLA Assessment (Vitality, Longevity and Healthy Ageing)

This quick, non-invasive and painless test is performed using a TGA approved medical device called a Quadscan. The Quadscan is scientifically validated to provide measurements related to body composition and cellular health, which are then interpreted through a VLA assessment with your practitioner. Fat mass, muscle mass, muscle quality, fluid balance and cellular integrity are some of the bio-markers that will be assessed and interpreted along with your health history.

The Naturopaths will use the VLA assessment to design a program tailor made for your needs. Nutritional supplements, exercise recommendations and dietary advice will be provided, giving your body the building blocks to maximum health and energy.

What will I receive?

Your Practitioner will conduct the test using the Quadscan device, complete a VLA assessment and provide you with a computerised report and detailed explanation so that you can understand the results at home. They will then design a strategy to improve key areas and give advice on how to achieve this. They will also monitor your results over time, so that you can see how your health is improving.

People who may benefit from the VLA assessment include those who want to:

  • Manage their weight effectively. Clients undertaking our Shake It Weight Management Program will find the ongoing monitoring of these bio-markers invaluable
  • Increase muscle tone and fitness
  • Improve energy levels
  • Age healthily
  • Support the nutrition and health of their body.

Zinc Taste Test

Zinc Taste Test provides a quick and reliable clinical test for the assessment of zinc status in your body. Zinc is the most used mineral in the body as it participates in over 300 biochemical reactions that are necessary for the healthy functioning of the human system. It helps to in the production and maintenances of neurotransmitters, collagen, components of the immune system, gastrointestinal tissues, hormones and the list goes on. Other methods of assessing zinc status can be difficult, as most of the body’s zinc stores are in the bones.

How reliable is this test?

Studies have demonstrated this taste test to be reliable and reproducible. By using the oral Zinc Taste Test to determine the need for zinc, and retesting after 30 days of supplementation, one can not only determine zinc requirements, but also monitor the patient to be sure they are properly absorbing their zinc.

Numerous research studies have found that sub-optimal levels of zinc are very common at all ages, especially in the elderly. An Australian study found that 85% of women and 65% of men do not receive the RDA for zinc in their diets.

How is the test evaluated?

Based on the response to tasting 10 ml of the Zinc solution the Naturopath will advise your level of deficiency and replete your zinc stores with a highly absorbed and effective zinc supplement. Zinc deficiency can also reflect that other minerals may also be low.

Live Blood Analysis

Live Blood Analysis is an excellent tool for unlocking the secrets held within your blood cells.  This test consists of taking a single drop of your blood and viewing it under a powerful microscope.  The image is then sent to a screen where it is viewed live and the results interpreted on the spot as you watch. Live Blood Analysis can assist in providing a more thorough case study to your Naturopathy consultation.

It allows our Naturopath to observe potential health hazards in the areas of liver stress, inflammation, infection, immune suppression, digestive problems, mineral and nutrient deficiencies, gastrointestinal problems, blood sugar imbalances, toxicity and more.

The screening process investigates the condition, size, shape and ratios of red and white cells and platelets in blood and can help to indicate:

  • Signs and severity of inflammation
  • Specific nutritional requirements
  • Oxidative stress and cellular damage
  • Immune system activity
  • Liver stress and detoxification needs

This test is not diagnostic and is for the use of practitioner interpretation only.

Laboratory Test Referrals

Our Naturopaths are qualified to refer for certain functional tests, including: Food and airborne allergy testing, hair mineral analysis, blood levels of vitamins and minerals, digestive stool analysis, hormonal testing, some genetic testing and general blood work. Your practitioner can give you a referral for a blood test to be performed at a blood collection centre or order test kits for home collection (depending on the requirements of the test). Referrals will only be issued after consultation with a practitioner to determine their appropriateness. It is important that results are interpreted in conjunction with your doctor and other health professionals that you may consult.
